A gregarious girls’ night out

The first-ever Bourbon Babe Cocktail Party at Bourbons Bistro was great fun, with more than 40 women enjoying bourbon tastings and the delicious creations of Chef Michael Crouch.

We started the evening with a mojito made with Basil Hayden, the 80-proof small batch from Jim Beam. It paired nicely with a roasted garlic and goat cheese spread, a fixture on Bourbons Bistro’s regular appetizer menu.

A tasting of Four Roses Small Batch (90 proof) followed, along with tomato-lobster-mozzarella tarts, duck confit with orange marmalade, beef tenderloin on crostini and fried green tomatoes.

With the dessert course – bourbon-chocolate mousse, roasted-peach bread pudding and Bourbon Bluegrass chocolate babas – we revisited our friend Basil Hayden, the namesake of Old Grand-Dad 114. This is a higher octane bourbon than the other two, but its vanilla and white chocolate notes paired well with the sweets.

Thank you so much to Bistro owner Jason Brauner (above) for hosting the party, and to the ladies who joined me – I hope you had as much fun as I did! We’re cooking up ideas for another Bourbon Babe event in the fall; watch the blog for updates.
