Meet a new Angel at pop-up bar

As promised, here is news about another Derby week doing: Angel’s Envy is bringing back its Kentucky Derby pop-up bar at 400 E. Main St. at Preston (directly across from Slugger Field) this week.

The bar will be open from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday (closed Wednesday) and again from 5 p.m. to midnight Friday through Sunday. Bartenders will be serving Angel’s Envy, the bourbon finished in port barrels, and trendy cocktails.

But the main reason to go is that you can be among the first to sample Angel’s Envy’s new limited-release: Angel’s Envy Rye. The rye was aged for at least six years in charred oak barrels, then finished for up to 18 months in rum barrels hand-selected from Barbados.

I had the good fortune to sample the Angel’s Envy Rye at WhiskyFest Chicago on Friday night, and it is flat-out delicious – sweet and spicy, with a nice syrupy mouthfeel and soft finish that belies its 100 proof. But you don’t have to Envy me: Try it for yourself.
