Alltech’s Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co., maker of Town Branch Bourbon, today became the seventh official stop on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail tour and the first craft distillery to join the trail.
The $6 million distillery is scheduled to open in September – National Bourbon Heritage Month – and begin tours on Oct. 1. Constructed of Kentucky limestone with glass walls on three sides to showcase its copper stills, it’s the first distillery to be built in Lexington in 100 years.
Town Branch is the baby of Dr. Pearse Lyons, founder and president of Alltech, an animal health and nutrition company. The distillery’s other brands include Pearse Lyons Reserve malt whiskey and Bluegrass Sundown, a bourbon-infused coffee drink. Town Branch is named for the stream that runs under downtown Lexington, and city officials at today’s announcement eagerly anticipated the stream of visitors the distillery will bring to Lexington.
That’s right: Even if you thought you’d completed the Kentucky Bourbon Trail tour, you have more drinking to do now. As the official T-shirt says: So many bourbons, so little time.
