Mint Julep Tours, a Louisville-based company that offers jaunts along the Kentucky Bourbon Trail tour and through horse country, is always coming up with new itineraries. Their latest combines a classic distillery experience with a quirky new tourist attraction.
The all-day Zip, Sip & Dip Adventure will first take you to Louisville’s Mega Cavern, a massive limestone quarry underneath the Louisville Zoo that served as a potential bomb shelter during the Cuban Missile Crisis and now holds offices and storage space – and, since 2011, the United States’ only underground zip line system. You’ll brave five zip-lines that run up to 70 feet above the floor and three challenge bridges.
By the end of all that, you’ll probably be ready for a drink. The “Sip” portion of the adventure occurs at Maker’s Mark Distillery in Loretto, Ky., where you’ll take the tour, sample the wares and have a chance to dip your own bottle in red wax.
The $149 cost of the adventure includes transportation, zip-lining and the Maker’s tour; lunch and the bourbon bottle to dip are on you. For more information, click here.
