One of the tastiest ways to get your bourbon fix through food is inside a bourbon ball – and one of the tastiest bourbon balls I’ve had recently came from Cellar Door Chocolates.
Self-taught chocolatier Erika Chavez-Graziano opened Cellar Door in 2007, and her luscious truffles in exotic flavors such as cayenne pepper, espresso and champagne quickly started drawing crowds to her shop in the Butchertown Market, 1201 Story Ave. Last week she celebrated the grand opening of a second shop, on the third floor of the Galt House West.
The truffles are featured there, too, along with molded chocolate suckers in the shapes of horse heads and chocolate fleurs-de-lis to celebrate Louisville’s heritage. Oh, and those bourbon balls. Their dark chocolate shells crack open to release a warming gush of bourbon-laced cream flavored with Evan Williams. The bourbon balls may be purchased individually or packaged for a nice gift. Even if it’s for you.
