Last week’s announcement that Michter’s will open a distillery at Eighth and Main streets in downtown Louisville was great news for bourbon lovers, but also for those who love historic architecture. The distillery will be housed in the 1870s-era Fort Nelson Building, which has been vacant for decades. Patrick O’Shea’s has demonstrated beautifully that you don’t have to tear down a great old building to create a great new space with its new pub at 123 W. Main St., located in an 1870 building that housed several distilleries in its day. Cheers to a trend that I hope continues.
