Deck the halls with lots of bourbon

Tis the season to be merry – and to shop for the bourbon fans on your list. If you’re still looking for the perfect gift, here are a few suggestions.

Personalized Glencairn whisky glasses: Glencairn crystal glasses are considered the essential glasses for tasting whisky or bourbon. This set of four wide-bowl glasses, above, from Wine Enthusiast ($69.95) can be personalized with one letter. You have until 3:30 p.m. EST Tuesday (Dec. 18) to order for guaranteed Christmas delivery. Click here.

Now, what to pour into those glasses?

Something special: Most liquor stores carry special selections of various brands. One to consider: the Four Roses Single Barrel personally selected by board members of the Bourbon Women Association. You can find it at the Liquor Barn at Springhurst.

A gift from the angels: Angel’s Envy, a bourbon created by master distiller Lincoln Henderson that is finished in port wine barrels, is a sumptuous sip with the velvety mouthfeel of wine and a smooth finish. And it’s packaged in one of the most beautiful bottles on the shelf. Around $45.

A good bet for out-of-towners: If you’re looking for a bottle to impress a non-Kentuckian, consider Rock Hill Farms from Buffalo Trace. Again, the packaging is distinctive – a squared-off bottle with a picture of a horse farm. Inside is a well-balanced bourbon that goes especially well with the dessert course, particularly if it’s chocolate. Several Louisville chefs I’ve chatted with have declared this their favorite bourbon. Around $52.

You don’t want those fancy glasses to leave a mark on your table, so consider these With a Splash of Water coasters from our friends at Bourbon Built. Printed by Louisville’s Hound Dog Press, they’re $8 for a set of four. Order here.
