Today is the inaugural World Whisky Day, an event established by a 21-year-old student at the University of Aberdeen who grew up in Edinburgh, Scotland. Blair Bowman, who hopes this will become an annual event, says his goal is to get more people interested in whisky and to boost tourism to Scotland. The BBC says more than 150 events are planned internationally in countries including Russia, Australia and Canada. Read more here.
In the USA, we more typically spell it “whiskey” and call what Mr. Bowman is promoting “Scotch.” He does, however, say that his event is all-inclusive. So I plan to celebrate World Whisky Day by doing my part to empty another barrel for those whisky producers to recycle – in other words, having a nice bourbon. How will you be celebrating?
