This week (June 6-12) is the third annual Negroni Week (#NegroniWeek), a celebration started in 2013 by Imbibe magazine and Campari to celebrate the iconic cocktail and to raise money for charity. Click here for more information and venues near you.
The classic Negroni has just three ingredients: gin, sweet vermouth, and Campari, a dark red, bittersweet apéritif made in Italy. How does a Negroni taste? We’ll let the writers of “Justified” answer that with this exchange from Season 6:
Safe-cracking “expert” who will soon blow himself up, offering drink to Boyd Crowder: Negroni?
Boyd: I don’t know what that is.
Wynn Duffy: It’s Italian. It tastes like grapefruit.
Boyd: I don’t want one.
Boyd might have enjoyed the Negroni’s cousin, the Boulevardier, which substitutes bourbon or rye for the gin. Click here for recipes, and click here for my “Justified” Whiskey Watch archive.
